March 18, 2020

Dear members,

Due to the current pandemic of COVID-19, the Session of Westminster Presbyterian Church has decided to suspend all meetings (worship services, Sunday School classes, choir and handbell practices, Bible Studies, Advent prayer studies, etc.) until further notice. We definitely will not be holding services through Wednesday, April 8, at which time the Session will meet again to determine the situation as it has unfolded by that date.

This means no weekly worship services on the Sundays of March 22, March 29, and on April 5., and no meetings during the weeks between them. We will keep you informed and in touch in a variety of ways:

  • Elders will be contacting members by phone each week;
  • We will send messages or notes through the US postal mail;
  • We will have a message via some sort of video and/or audio recorded form, such as Facebook or through our website each Sunday;
  • And we will use OneCall regularly to send encouraging messages and updates at least weekly.

By using a variety of methods, we hope to keep each member aware and in touch with all that is going on with our church and the world around us. Feel free to call me if you have any needs that our church or I can help you with (870-648-9173).

Remember that you can mail in your pledges and “One Great Hour of Sharing” offerings. The expenses of the church remain even when services are not being held.

Please be in prayer for those in the nursing homes who are not currently allowed visitors as well as those whose health is weak. Let us be in prayer for the lost, as this is a time when those who rarely consider their own mortality may recognize their need of God.

God is good, all the time. When strange things happen or hard times come, God’s power, grace, mercy, and love are even more visible to those who are fearful, hurting, or isolated from others. Rest assured that those of us who know and trust in Jesus have nothing to fear. Paul the Apostle said, “To be absent from the body is to be present with our Lord,” (2 Cor. 5:9) so death holds no fear for us. We know we will be in heaven with Jesus and our loved ones; in heaven where there is no pain, where there are no tears and no sorrow. “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God concerning you” (1 Thess. 5:18).

In Christ,    Pastor Brenda
